Holy Week (Atlixco, Mexico) [ 52 images ]
Every year on Good Friday, dozens of anonymous men of all ages voluntarily undergo pain and suffering during the religious procession of the ‘Engrillados’ (the Shackled ones) in Puebla state, central Mexico. Wearing heavy chains on their shoulders covered with prickling cacti while being burned by the hot midday sun, they recall Jesus Christ’s death by crucifixion and demonstrate their religiosity and faith.
