Although the original spiritual tradition, kept by the indigenous shamen in Americas for centuries, has been systematically repressed by the Catholic Church, nowadays, more and more people from the urban areas of Latin America discover their roots and consult their everyday problems with esoteric practitioners, healers and shamen. Traditional indigenous rituals (reading of tobacco - interpretation of signs shown by burn tobacco leaves) have merged with European concepts (divination using playing cards) and animistic religious beliefs (worshipping the spirits) brought to Americas by the African slaves, keeping the spirituality in modern Latin American society alive.
